About North Canoe Elementary
The community of Canoe is located 11km east of dowtown Salmon Arm via the Trans Canada Highway. North Canoe Elementary has served the rural population of the north-eastern section of the district of Salmon Arm since 1897. The present day locatin of the school was established in 1924.
Canoe is a very close knit community with a strong sense of identity. Students of North Canoe Elementary live in a variety of different settings ranging from rural country living to subdivisions and trailer parks. Most students live within walking distance form the school. Canoe is largely sef-contained, having a general store, service station, pub, hall, church groups, motels, a youth centre, one marina, two boat launches, public beach and a privately run golf and recreational centre. There are several large extended families that make up a solid population base. The cost of living in Canoe makes it an attractive place to live for seniors, young families starting out, and single parent families.
The school has had an addition in the last ten years which included three new classrooms and a fully networked computer lab. The recent upgrade to the school grounds, that was funded by the school Parent Advisory, and the installation of new playground equipment provides an inviting setting for students.
Our Parent Advisory Committee and School Planning Council have developed a strong partnership with the school as we encourage parents to take a more active interest in the direction we see our school developing. We are also very fortunate to have their financial support for both curricular and extra curricular activities.
An intramural program is offered to our students in addition to the regular curriculum. The dedication of professional and support staff, combined with the support of our parents, provides a healthy and stimulating educational environment for students.
For the 2009/2010 school year we expect our enrollment to be in the mid 80's.
